Dear all,
For the nice triad "Roma" from aradia miniature, I wanted to build a desert/sand base, minimalist.
The first issue I got in planning the project is I wanted to use a round wood base.
So in order to build the volume, I had to create a "frame".
Overall shape |
(from pk pro).
What a pain to glue the plastic card like this.. glue accelarator is your friend. (from pk pro)
Once frame is done, I placed some stryrene sheet to build the general volume.
Adding volumes |
The only objet I will place on this base is a column, made in plaster.
Of course I need to fill the volume, but at least I have an idea now of the overall shape, thus I cut a bit the plastic card to adapt the size.
Filling with paste |
Then I just cover everything with Vallejo sand paste. The granulosity is still too big for my sand aspect, but it will just serve as a filler.
Preparing miniature position |
I placed the miniature in it, to prepare the future position and create the "hole" needed to place it at the end.
Filling gaps and sanding |
I used an epoxy putty to fill the gaps between plastic card parts, en between card and wood base.
It can be sanded for perfect smooth aspect.
Sand deposit |
Maintenant la peinture.
I use then the finest sand I got in house. It was form an art store. This very fine sand is used to remove paint with a gun, over porcelain. It's the smallest granulosity I have ever seen.
I had to place thinned PVA glue, then sand over it, let it dry and did it again.. 5 or 6 time to avoid big "blob" of sand.
Now painting it
Orange + yellow +ivory |
First I applied with airbrush, an orange Vallejo tone.
Yellow sand, and ivory over it. I tried to create some variation.
wet blending column |
Wet blending time on the column. Ochre tone first, mixed wet in ivory. Adding some purple/pink in the shadows.
Scratch and highlight with white added when dried.
