Salut, je m'appelle Dimitri, 35 printemps, alias "Dim69" ou "Minisocles" sur les différents forums/réseaux sociaux.

Quel a été ton parcours ?
What was your background ?

Il a été complexe ^_^ Après un doctorat en écologie à Toulouse et Berlin, j'ai travaillé pendant un an à l'INRA de Nancy. Puis j'ai laissé de côté le monde de la recherche pour retravailler dans le magasin lyonnais qui m'avait permis de financer mes études en classes prépa et à la fac. Et depuis un an, je suis du côté de Strasbourg.
It was complex ^_^ After a doctorate in ecology at Toulouse and Berlin, I worked for a year at the INRA of Nancy. Then I left out the research world to work in the Lyon store that had allowed me to fund my studies in college. And since one year, I am located closed to Strasbourg.

Comment as-tu commencé ce hobby ?
How did you start this hobby ?

Totalement par hasard ! Je suis passé devant le GW de Lyon quand j'étais gamin, et j'ai tout de suite été attiré par les space marines et les décors. J'ai rien acheté à cette époque mais on m'a offert le livre de peinture EAVY METAL (voir question suivante). Je retournais assez souvent au GW de Lyon, mais c'est seulement quand j'ai eu une vingtaine d'années que je me suis décidé à acheter quelques figurines (des space marines évidemment !) et quelques peintures :) Voilà ma toute première "œuvre", tellement décevante et loin de ce que j'avais en tête (tout avait l'air si simple dans les livres !!) que j'ai posé mes pinceaux pendant plusieurs mois avant de m'y remettre ! J'aimerais bien retrouver un exemplaire non peint de cette figurine pour faire un petit "AVANT-APRES", ça serait marrant !

Completely by accident! I went in front of the Lyon' GW when I was a kid, and I was immediately attracted by the marine space and scenery. I bought nothing at this time but I was offered the book to paint HEAVY METAL (see next question). I went back quite often to the GW of Lyon, but that's only when I got twenty years that I decided to buy a few figurines (of the space marine of course!) and some paintings :) This is my first "oeuvre", so disappointing and far from what I had in mind (everything seemed so simple in the books!) that I put my brushes aside for several months before you get ! I'd like to find a copy not painted this figure to make a small "Before-After", that would be fun !

What are your influences ? Sculptors painters ...

Dur de répondre tellement il y en a !!! Je vais pas être très original mais au tout début, ce sont les travaux de l'équipe Eavy Metal qui m'ont poussé à m'intéresser à ce hobby. Tout a commencé avec ce livre que je feuillète encore très souvent.
Hard to answer so there! I'm not going to be very original but at the beginning, these are the Eavy Metal team work that I pushed to get interested in this hobby. It all started with this book that I laminated still very often.

Puis Allan CARRASCO, les copains de la Team Toulouse et le site MASSIVE VOODOO m'ont montré qu'il n'y avait pas que GW dans la vie ! Grâce aux salons et aux soirées peintouille, j'ai découvert beaucoup de nouveaux styles, de nouvelles gammes et techniques… Les peintres et sculpteurs de feu Rackham m'ont aussi beaucoup influencé. Maintenant, grâce à internet, je peux papillonner sur plein de sites (il y a une petite sélection de mes favoris sur le blog : http://www.minisocles-blog.fr/) et maintenant que j'ai franchi la porte de Facebook (oui, j'ai un peu trainé :p), je peux en prendre plein les yeux tous les matins !! Depuis plusieurs mois, je dois quand même avouer que c'est Ben KOMETS que je suis avec le plus d'assiduité, j'adore son style texturé et contrasté !

Then Allan CARRASCO, the Toulouse Team mates and MASSIVE VOODOO site showed me that there not only GW in life! Thanks to the salons and nights painting, I discovered many new styles, new lines and techniques...The painters and sculptors from Rackham also much influenced me. Now, thanks to the internet I can flutter on plenty of sites (there's a small selection of my favorites on the blog:  http://www.minisocles-blog.fr/) and now that I walked in the door of Facebook (Yes, I'm a little behind: p), I take full eyes every morning! For several months, I still have to admit that it's Ben KOMETS as I am with the most attendance, I love his style textured and contrasting!

Quelles sont les raisons qui t'ont poussé à passer d'un blog regroupant tes peintures et des tutos, à une boutique en ligne pour les socles ?
What are the reasons that pushed you to spend a blog of your paintings and tutorials, to shop online for the bases ?

Quand j'ai créé Minisocles en 2011, c’était effectivement un simple blog présentant mes figurines et quelques guides de peinture de figurines et de créations de socles écrits avec des copains. On me demandait souvent quels matériaux j’utilisais pour ces tutos et où se les procurer. De fil en aiguille, une section vente est donc apparue avec une sélection de mes produits préférés. Après un peu plus d'un an de fonctionnement, et grâce à un gros coup de pouce de copains motivés et beaucoup plus doués que moi en informatique, la boutique et le blog ont finalement divorcé début 2013, et Minisocles-store est né :)
When I created Minisocles in 2011, it was actually a simple blog with my figurines and a few guides paint figurines and creations of bases written with friends. I was often asked what materials I used for these tutorials and where to get them. A sale section appeared with a selection of my favorite products. After a little more than a year of operation, and with a big help from buddies motivated and much more skilled than me in computer science, the shop and the blog have finally divorced in early 2013, and Minisocles-store was born :)

Ta méthode de travail préférée ? (plusieurs possibles aussi)
Your preferred method of work ? (several possible too)

Le "glavis" :D ! Un mix de glacis et de lavis plus ou moins dilués que je m'amuse à tirer, "tamponner" ou à passer en filtres pour avoir assez rapidement des dégradés pas trop vilains. Depuis environ deux ans, j'ai aussi adopté un style de peinture plus texturé qui me plait bien, notamment sur les armures et les cuirs.
The "glayer" :D ! A mix of glazes and more or less diluted wash that I enjoy shooting, "tamponner" or to filters to have fast enough not too naughty gradations. " Two years ago, I have also adopted a style of painting over textured that me likes it, including on the armor and leather.

J'aime beaucoup jouer avec les textures/éraflures sur les figurines, ça leur donne un côté patiné qui me plait bien !
I love playing with scratches textures on the figures,It gives them a side weathered, i likes it!

Quelle est la place du socle dans tes projets ?
What is the role of the base in your projects ?

Une place centrale ! Je passe parfois autant de temps sur le socle que sur la figurine, c'est un excellent moyen de pousser le travail de personnalisation et de mise en ambiance. J'adore réfléchir à l'environnement dans lequel la figurine pourrait évoluer, rajouter des petits détails, chercher les bonnes couleurs qui mettront la figurine en valeur sans lui voler la vedette… Entre deux séances de dégradés soigneux ou de micro travail sur les éraflures/textures, ça fait aussi franchement du bien de faire un gros brossage à sec bien gras sur un socle ;)
A central place! Sometimes I spend so much time on the base on the figure, it's a great way to push the work of customization and layout atmosphere. I love thinking about the environment in which the figurine could evolve, add small details, get the right colors that will put the figure in value without him stealing the show... Between two sessions of gradients careful or micro work on scratches/texture, it's also frankly good to do a big dry brushing on a base ;)

Your greatest achievement to date ?

D'un point de vue figurinesque, je pense que le petit diorama avec le Falcon à l'échelle EPIC est mon préféré. J'y ai vraiment passé des heures et des heures avec une loupe et une pince à épiler pour peaufiner les détails minuscules.
For our hobby, i think the small diorama with the Falcon to EPIC scale is my favorite. I have really spent hours and hours with a magnifying glass and tweezers for the tiny details.

D'un point de vue personnel, c'est évidemment mon fils Aedan ;)

Ton plus grand regret ?
Your biggest regret ?

Je suis une grosse quiche en dessin et en sculpture ! Du coup, ça me limite vraiment dans mes créations et c'est frustrant ! Y'a plein de copains qui se sont proposés pour m'aider à m'y mettre mais j'ai encore tellement de choses à explorer et à améliorer dans ma peinture que j'ai pas encore franchi le pas.
I'm not really good in drawing and sculpture! So, it really limits me in my creations and it's frustrating! There are plenty of friends who volunteered to help me get started but I have still so much to explore and improve in my painting that I have not yet taken the plunge.

Aujourd'hui, je vais terminer cette petite figurine pour Golem Miniatures.

Encore quelques retouches sur la figurine et le socle à terminer avant que SAKON ne soit prêt pour la séance photo !

Ensuite, j'ai au moins 15 projets en cours ^_^' !! Pendant presque 10 ans, j'ai été tellement perfectionniste et accaparé par le boulot que je finissais à peine une ou deux figurines par an. Cet été, je me suis donc lancé un défi personnel pour me pousser à moins me prendre la tête et à peindre plus rapidement. J'ai appelé ça "ONE DAY, ONE MINI". Comme son nom l'indique, le défi est de peindre une figurine avec un niveau assez sympa en un jour.
Then I at least 15 ongoing projects ^_^'! For almost 10 years, I was such a perfectionist and driven by the work I ended up barely one or two figures per year. This summer, I therefore started the challenge to paint more quickly. I called it  "ONE DAY, ONE MINI " As its name suggests, the challenge is to paint a figure with a pretty cool level in one day.

Le résultat n'est pas aussi fin que quand je passe 30 ou 40 heures sur une figurine mais ça m'a totalement "débloqué" et du coup, depuis quelques semaines, j'ai beaucoup de projets en tête et en cours !
The result is not as fine as when I spent 30 or 40 hours on a figurine but I was totally "unlocked" and so, for a few weeks, I have many projects in my mind and on going !

A court terme, je fais des animations peinture un vendredi sur deux dans la boutique Philibert de Strasbourg. Le dimanche 27 Novembre, je ferai aussi une journée de démonstration avec des copains sur la convention Dons des Dragons (http://www.don-des-dragons.org/#accueil) dont tous les bénéfices seront reversés au Téléthon. Pour la suite, plusieurs magasins/associations/clubs m'ont contacté pour faire des démos dans l'hexagone. Si ça se concrétise et si je peux aussi me libérer pour quelques salons, le plus simple pour avoir toutes les infos est de suivre le blog et la page Facebook ;)
Short term, I do paint animations every other Friday in the shop Philibert of Strasbourg. Sunday, November 27, I'll also do a demo day with buddies on the donations of Dragons (http://www.don-des-dragons.org/#accueil) convention which all profits will be donated to the Telethon. Thereafter, several stores/associations/clubs contacted me to do demos in France. If it materializes, and if I can also release me for some salons, the easier to have all of the info is to follow the blog and Facebook page ;)
