Salut à tous!
Hello all!
For a fiew time; my six-years old daughter paints with me. What a joy! At the beginning, she was looking what I do. And quickly she wanted to do it herself. But this day, I had that on my bench:
OK... good idea. Put perhaps she can start with something easier? But what?
I found an idea inspired by previous challenges. Easy miniatures, cheaps:
Everything starts will the will of your kid. If he or her wants to paint, go! If your child has no motivation, it's OK and wait. Has every wakening activity as well.
After several trials, here is my coaching: I prepare the miniature (gluing on the base, sanding, undercoat...) then I give it to my daughter. In this way she only have the fun.
I try to only help her on the color choice, but she got the last word.
When she takes the brush, I remind her to well take the base in hand, always look at the mini. We dilute the paint togther and I show her where the paint is missing.
She's 6 years old, so usuely we paint 10 to 20 minutes. Because painting requires lots of attention and your child will be quickly tired.

After several trials with this Kinder, she wanted to paint something more difficult!
To complete, I will talk about my own experience.
To complete, I will talk about my own experience.
My first approach was to show my work to my daughter, to share some times with her to see my showcase. I tried to give her the desire to paint. As Fred said, don't force children.
Trust them. Generally, children want to please you and know if they paint with you, you will be proud of your child.

The first sessions with my daugther, she was 6 year old. She had a very short focus time (10-15 min). The minis were about stories like Lord of the Ring. Gimli was the first. And it was a good result for her first one. It took a long time, about 2 months to do it.
After that, off-peak period then new desire. We decided together to prepare a mini for a contest.

As Fred said: what a pleasure! I am really proud to see my child finishing some long and precise project. All these demand accuracy and patience. Not only for your child... also for parents!
